Due to the disaster in Fukushima, Japan is currently facing a deficit in energy resources thus resulting to importing over 84% of the energy requirements needed to keep the entire nation running.

During the mid 1960s the very first commercial nuclear power reactor started to astound the world. And shortly after in 1973 nuclear energy has been the top priority. But with the Fukushima catastrophe last 2011 that still haunts the lands and waters of this prefecture, it has caught the attention of many organizations and individual groups to attend to the matter.

Japan has more than 50 reactors that can power up over 30% of the country’s needed electricity. And ideally by 2017 this percentage would get higher up to 40% tops. But this time there would only be 48 reactors. It hasn’t dawned on them how difficult it is to get a clearance and process it. This will take some years before everything can go up and running once more.

Fukushima Accident

Imagine that Japan is the only country that has experienced the devastating effects of nuclear weapons during wartime wherein 100,000 people died. This did not stop Japan from straying away from what was once the cause of many deaths in their home. By utilizing what they have they were able to create power for the entire country. It’s just that the acts of God like the tsunami that killed 19,000 people caused the crash of the Fukushima reactor. This has awakened many civilians that this sort of industry can be detrimental to everyone’s health if not today sooner or later at the nearby future.

Public protests had already been started and are still been carried out. Even non-Japanese citizens are worried and appalled by the effects of the leak and fumes of the reactors. The only question is how can Shinzo Abe address this nationwide problem?
